VOCAL MUSIC I-IV
Vocal Music I-IV is open to students of any grade
or experience level. The class focuses on basic music
theory and vocal technique. This choir studies and
performs a variety of classical choral literature from various
time periods, and may be required to sing on no more than one
concert per semester. Although an audition is not required
to be in this course, the director reserves the right to listen
to students sing individually in this class and offer promotion
(into a more advanced choir) to experienced singers or those
showing a high potential for fast improvement. If you are
a student at Cordova High School and are interested in joining
this class, simply sign up for it when you receive your
registration card during the Spring semester, or discuss it with
the Choir Director, Ms. Johnson, in Room F163, or you can send a
message via the Guestbook page. If your name is listed
below and you no longer wish to be in choir, please contact the
director immediately!

SWING CHOIR HONORS
This is our most advanced
group, a mixed choir open to experienced choir students of all
grade levels by audition only. Only students selected for
Chamber Singers are allowed to participate in this group.
This choir studies and performs a variety of choral literature,
ranging from classical to pop/jazz. They also learn about
microphone technique and performing on a sound system.
Selection for this group is based on the following
qualities (in order): vocal ability, attendance record,
behavior, and grades. The students in this class are
responsible for the purchase of a specific choir uniform, and
are required to attend all scheduled performances held on or
off-campus (a schedule ill be provided in September), in addition to meeting all requirements for Chamber
Singers. This is a small group, anywhere from 6-12
students each year. In the event a student cannot attend a
performance, the student must notify the director immediately so
it can be decided whether or not the group should perform.
In addition to auditioning for the All-Southwest Honor Choir and
competing as a soloist at the Solo and Ensemble Festival,
students in this choir are also required to compete at the West
Tennessee Swing/Show Choir Festival (April), and are expected to compete
in a national choral competition. Students in this course
receive a weighted GPA. If your name is listed below and
you no longer wish to be in choir, please contact the director
immediately!
